For Parents and Carers

Parental engagement

At Bracken Edge we value parental engagement. During this academic year we will be holding a series of sessions to communicate how we support children in school within the curriculum and provide policy updates within school.

2019- Parent Sessions

Generally sessions are held in the family space on a Thursday morning from 9am every 2nd week (unless otherwise stated)

*It will be the responsibility of the staff delivering the sessions to inform/invite the parents

Maths - Calculation


Whole school

This session will give you the opportunity to see how children progress through the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  We'll share the objectives for each year group as well as show you how we expect children to layout out their calculations. Please come along as research shows that a child's attitude to maths is gained from home and when you have the confidence to have a go and talk about maths your child will too.

An opportunity for parents to look at childrens work within books and their classroom environment.


Attendance and Admissions

CK and Kerry Knowles (2gether Cluster)

Whole School

All parents will be shown how the school supports children with their attendance and explain the systems in place for tracking and monitoring. Parents will gain an understanding of the importance of regular attendance and how poor attendance adversely effects children’s ability to make progress.



E-safety and Keeping Safe


Whole School

Staff will be looking at E-safety and ways parents can keep their children safe and report concerns. Staff will explain to parents how we teach the children to stay safe and discussing ways parents can support this at home. Parents will also have the opportunity to discuss the schools safeguarding policy and procedures with staff. Parents will gain a good understanding of in school safeguarding procedures and ways to support at home.

Reading Café

Staff will be holding Reading Cafés over the course of the year. Parents will attend the cafes and be involved in raising the profile of reading with their child. Parents will have the opportunity to be involved in joint reading activities and shown ways to support their child with reading at home.
